 Here at Lakeside, we value all our customers and completely understand how important it is for people to be able to have their vehicles attended to without it impacting on their working day. We would love to be able to offer the collection and delivery service to everyone who requires it, however we are limited to a specific number of collections each day which get booked up very quickly. We are currently looking at a lead time of 2 1/2 weeks for collections so please please book early if having your car collected and delivered back to you is a service that would be useful to you.

We would also be very grateful if you could let us know your availability during the period of the day we are working on the car as we may need to speak to you about your vehicle as without consent, there is a possibility that we would not be able to carry out any additional work if it is required, within that day.

Continue reading »]]> This post will give you information as to why you absolutely should renew your MOT before it runs out:

We have just had a customer who unintentionally allowed the MOT to run out on their vehicle. They were recently stopped by the police whilst driving, the car was impounded.

 The driver had to pay for the cost of having the vehicle recovered to the pound, then pay to have the car released from the pound, (The cost of which increases on a daily basis),  once proof of an MOT appointment could verified and only then was the vehicle allowed to be taken straight to the MOT test centre.

In addition to this, the driver was given a fixed penalty fine,  and most of the rest of  the day was taken up with trying to sort everything out.

Please note, you can have your vehicle MOT’d up to 30 days before it is due, but there is no 30 day grace after the MOT has expired. The vehicle would instantly be on the road illegally. You would also need to check your insurance policy t’s+c’s regarding road worthiness, and whether you would still be covered by your policy.

Continue reading »]]> It seems to be a common belief  that it is not necessary to use the Air Conditioning  during the winter months. However, by leaving it off, it can cause  the seals to dry out and acid corrosion as well. When you come to use the system again during the summer months, there is more likelihood of faults occurring or for the system to fail altogether, since the system is not designed to be dormant, and it will struggle to work effectively.

Using the Air Conditioning during the winter months can help with de-misting the windows, general circulation of air, and can stop pollen and bacteria from getting into the car.

Newer cars will have a climate control system rather than the older Air Conditioning. This means that the Air Conditioning is likely to be set to be automatic for when it is needed and would need to be physically turned off, which again is not advisable.

Continue reading »]]> Lakeside garage now carries out repairs and software updates to the fibre optic entertainment system on your BMW. These repairs are normally only carried out by the dealer.

Now we can save you time and money. Common problems are bluetooth not working correctly, idrive screen not working or freezing, CD player or Sat Nav not working and no radio reception. These all work on the MOST (Media Oriented System Transport) Network bus. This is a fibre optic network which connects the whole media system from Sat Nav to radio, CD and TV. As it’s fibre optic it requires specialist tools, training and software to work on it. This system is on most BMW’S from 2003 to present including E81, E46, E90, E60, E53, E63 and E65 plus more across the range.

Diesel cars are now fitted with DPF’s that can be expensive to replace. They filter out the soot particles in the diesel exhaust system but rely on the car being driven at higher speeds constantly to regenerate (clean the filter). They are a service item and at some point will require replacing as the filter will get blocked and regeneration cannot be carried out. This usually happens between 80,000 and 120,000 miles. However short journeys, incorrect oil fitted at service or lack of servicing can cause early failure of this filter.

We are able to help with these by forcing a regeneration of the DPF through the engine management system with our dedicated diagnostic software. If this can’t be done as the filter is too blocked we are able to manually clean the filter to save money on buying a new item which can be costly.

If you have a Diesel particulate filter fault or need a replacement then call us first. Many people replace sensors and wiring to try to cure DPF faults when in reality using the correct equipment and cleaning the filter is actually the answer.
